So for the past month I have really had a strong focus on getting some engagement sessions completed. Why am I going to blog about engagement sessions? Well I am a 100% believer that engagement sessions are a fundamental part of the wedding planning process!
You see... My motto (that has been mentioned in past blogs) is "You'd rather have and not need it then to need it and not have it". I literally say this for everything even when I am at Kmart scootin' my trolly down that bloody aisle with all of the artificial plants!! So lets start here. Let's say you book me for your wedding day but you don't want an engagement session. Some clients will book with me over facebook/website etc. Now I like to meet my clients before their big day but sometimes this doesn't happen due to schedules on both ends. Therefore I can sometimes find myself coming into a wedding day where I don't know the bride or groom. Sure I've read their info form they filled out but I haven't had the chance prior to learn about the couple on a more personal level. This is where the engagement session is crucial. An engagement session gives me as the photographer a chance to get to know my couples and how they prefer to be photographed. I quickly find out what pushes their buttons, what poses they are most comfortable with and who leaves the toilet roll on the hanger without replacing it with a new one which in turn allows me to work with my clients on a level that makes everyone feel comfortable and as if we've known each other for ages!
You come to the engagement session and you have no idea how to pose or you say to me "I hate photos". Heres my chance to A. Make you LOVE yourself in front of the camera and B. Allow you to get familiar with posing and how to make your poses flow from being wrapped in each others arms to opening up like a book and facing the camera with those piercing eyes! After just a single 1 hour engagement session you will leave feeling like a pro and come into your wedding day fully prepared to work along side me as we make you look like a magazine cover bride/groom. You will have learnt all my handy tips and tricks to remember whilst posing for example I often have my couples take a few attempts at walking together hand in hand.... Seems easy right? NOPE! 90% of my clients will over think even a basic human ability and this is where my tip comes in handy.
1. Start with holding hands as you start to walk.
2. Keep your feet forward at all time and avoid walking with toes pointed outwards.
3. Walk slow... stroll
4. If your really panicking about "doing it wrong" then every 3 steps have your partner reach over with their outside hand and hold your hand with their two hands causing you both to bump shoulders and look more intimate.
You will finish up your bridal party shots and come with me to get your bridal shots and you will know exactly what to do when I ask you to both just take a stroll as I follow and capture you both. This will allow you to be more comfortable during the process.
Display! Display! Display! Your engagement session can be displayed everywhere! Your facebook feed, your wall, your office desk, hell! even at your wedding! Once you receive those images you will have endless opportunities to display your memories that have been captured! ANNNNNDDDDD at the end of the day the only thing you will regret is not booking in your engagement session! So what are you waiting for? Message me and book your engagement session in! I will help you to book in your Engagement and suggest fun activities, locations and props!
