The title of this blog is pretty self explanatory but I am going to elaborate on it anyway because hey.. This girl likes to blog.
"You'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it" is a quote I seriously need to have tattooed to myself in the most cliche spot on my body. I use this phrase for everything especially when it comes to couples and families that are hesitant about getting their photos taken. I may even sometimes abuse this phrase when is comes to going on late night trips to Kmart after my husband asks why I am travelling 30 minutes out of town to go and get a sparkly pen and some other unnecessary stationary that clogs my office to the brim like a container full of left overs your taking home from dinner with your parents. Yeah... you know what I mean.. mmmmm love me some left over Sunday roast.
I often find the first message I receive from a potential client is "Hey how much for a _____ shoot?" When I give the juicy details of pricing the next message is usually "we haven't had photos in years" and/or "I'll have to check with my partner we aren't sure about posing for a camera". Attention all genders! Unless your Adeline from the Age of Adeline you my friend only have one life. And it's a short one at that. So when considering getting a memory captured forever I preach to you like a choir at Megan and Harry's Wedding please please please just book the session. And I don't mean with me you can book it with anyone! You would literally rather have the photos taken and not need them ever but to just look back on when your old and wrinkly like that peach in the back of your fridge than sit there like that old peach and go "hmmm I wish I got those photos taken now".
Attending one of my sessions in a memory made in itself. I bring with me not only my camera but a big ol' bag of personality and entertainment whether its me falling over that invisible thing that no one saw in front of me or telling a joke I was 100% sure wouldn't crack a smile but told anyway. I plan each session prior to attending one. Through phone calls, messages and emails I pick up each client's vibe and plan my sessions around my perception of my client. And yes we mustn't judge a book by its cover which is why I do find out a little about my couples and families through asking questions about them first also. I do have a bit of a giggle when I get to make those shy couples come out of their comfort zone a little bit by making them eskimo kiss and tickle each other which for some couples they would never do on a regular basis ("oooooo awkward!"). So these little moments in turn are then known as memories so that when my couples and families look back on their images they say "Hey I remember when Demi made us do that!".
I strongly believe this also applies to engagement sessions. So you've just become engaged right? And you're not sure about getting an engagement session done because well you'll have the wedding ones anyway and it's not really in your budget and you don't have time and you.... stop right there. Ya basic! Listen here.... "You'd rather have it and not need it than to need it and not have it". Book the engagement session because if there is just one tiny, little tiny fairy on your shoulder whispering in your ear telling you that maybe you'd like some engagement sessions then you need to book it ASAP! And again you don't have to book with me just book it with anyone get those memories snapped up so when your old and cant remember if you brushed those teeth in the morning you'll know you can still look at those images and remember what Demi made you do to get those images and you may laugh, you may cry or you could hate me for making you dance in a street full of tourists; who knows!
I hope my sassy story has inspired you to book your next session.
